You certainly have heard of Benjamin Franklin--who studied electricity, invented the lightning rod and bifocals, and achieved a few dozen other milestones, each of which alone would be enough to mark anyone else's life for destiny. Franklin is one of the most influential Americans in our nation's history, but his influence often started in relatively small spheres of influence.
When he was a young man, Franklin was a tradesman, specifically a printer, in Philadelphia, but he realized that he and others like him could help one another and help their community by sharing information and ideas within a small club called the Junto. This group served multiple purposes, including starting one of the most powerful institutions in the history of our country: a public library.
Next time, we will examine ways to exert influence in small spheres of influence.
